Ask Us Anything
The S1 Max is rated for gradients up to 15°, which covers gentle urban slopes, bridge ramps and most parking garage entries — but not steep hills. That limit comes from its 350W motor: on a 15° incline a 75 kg rider will feel the scooter working hard and slowing noticeably. If your daily route includes anything steeper or longer than a few hundred metres uphill, look at the A1 or M4 Max instead, which are rated to 20° with 800W motors. The S1 Max is best understood as a flat-terrain commuter that happens to handle small slopes, not an all-rounder. Starting a climb from a standstill is harder on the motor than maintaining momentum.
Yes — the S1 Max is designed for adults, not children, although at 18.3 kg it is light enough for almost anyone to carry. It has an 8-inch tyre setup and a compact frame, which is why it weighs so little. The trade-off is stability: smaller wheels and a shorter deck feel less planted at speed than a 10-inch scooter, so it suits riders who want short, calm trips rather than fast riding. Rider weight has a limited effect here because the motor is modest — heavier riders will simply feel less acceleration. If you are over 95 kg and want confident performance, the M4 Max with its 800W motor and 10-inch tyres is the better match.
The S1 Max's 25 km/h top speed matches the legal limit for e-scooters in several EU countries, but road legality depends on certification, not speed alone. This model does not carry ABE (Germany) or DGT/VMP (Spain) approval, so it should not be assumed road-legal there. If you need a certified scooter for German roads, the KuKirin G2 Pro ABE is approved at 20 km/h; for Spain, the G2 VMP and G2 Pro VMP carry DGT approval at 25 km/h. Always check your own country's rules before riding on public roads — requirements differ between Germany, France and Spain, and enforcement varies by city.
The S1 Max charges in 7–8 hours with the supplied 42V charger. Three habits will noticeably extend battery life. First, charge before the pack drops below 20% rather than running it flat — deep discharges shorten lithium battery life most. Second, if you ride short distances daily, charging to 80–90% is gentler on the cells than holding 100% for days; charge fully before a longer trip. Third, store the scooter cool and dry, ideally between 15 and 25 °C. Leaving it at 100% in a hot car or an unheated shed over winter is the fastest way to lose capacity.
Spare parts for the S1 Max ship from our EU warehouse, which matters for a commuter you plan to keep for several years. The parts that actually wear are tyres, brake pads, the charger and the battery. At a 1,000 km check, three items matter most. Check tyre pressure monthly — under-inflation wears the sidewall and quietly reduces range. Inspect the rear brake, which on this model does most of the stopping. And re-torque the folding mechanism and stem bolts every 200–300 km, since these loosen gradually on any folding scooter. Step-by-step setup and repair videos are published in our resource centre.
